Closure

Finally, after hours of trauma, the washing machine situation has been resolved.  Repairman #1, who would have charged $19.99 for the service call, regardless of outcome, told me over the phone that the machine was kaput, and he couldn't show up to confirm that until Tuesday.   I considered just buying another machine, but decided that I really had to know for sure that the machine (it was only 9  years old!) couldn't be fixed.

I belong to Angie's List, which by now is fairly well known nationwide.  Customers pay for access to Angie's reviews of service providers in the customers' area.  I decided to seek Repairman #2 who might be able to show up sooner than Tuesday to give me some answers.  Sure enough, I found another Repairman, one who showed up a few minutes ago, charging $69.99 for the service call.  (I'm just now figuring out that patience pays, or impatience costs.)

Repairman #2 confirmed that the washing machine was indeed dead beyond resuscitation.  (Repairs would cost more than the cost of a new washer, which I find shocking and disturbing.)  I fought back tears as i wrote out the check for $69.99.

The Child thought that I should physically shop for a new washer.  Really????  In this day and age, who actually shows up at a brick and mortar???  I went online, spent an hour, and ended up with what I think is an economical and reliable washing machine.  It will be delivered and installed on Wednesday, and the deceased will receive a proper burial, all free of charge.

I hereby put this matter to rest.

Out with the old and in with the new. If only the demise of all relationships was that (relatively) painless and easy to forget about afterwards:)
Why, I bet you won't even be talking about it in 6 months and will have moved on entirely, no regrest, never wondering what if... (lol)

Dear Aurora,

I hope you're right. I'm a bit worried, because the replacement is a top loader. Front loaders are usually preferred, but it seems that they are more likely to be problematic. I opted for the top loader this time, in hopes of greater longevity. Something tells me that I'll always miss my large capacity front loader.

Hugs,
Betty

I'm sorry you're going through all this, but I guess we all do at one time or another. At least it is resolved, right? Good luck with the new one. I hope it proves you wrong on your concerns, just so you can relax. Hugs, dear girl. :)

Dear Lynilu,

If there's one thing I've learned from my sister, it's that if you have your health, you really have no problems! Even while going off about the washer or other such matters, I am aware of that. Washers are replaceable (it just takes a bit of money!) so i can't complain.

Hugs,
Betty

Glad you have closure - it seriously sucks that he charged you $69 for a service call. Ridiculous!

Dear Patti,

That's life in the big city! what was amazing was that I actually found Repairman #1 who only would have charged $20 for the service charge, IF he had been available.....

At times like this I have to forget about money (except when choosing the new machine, which is definitely a bargain and hopefully not too much inferior to the first machine).

Hugs,
Betty

Dear Betty,
I have a Maytag top loader and it's never given me a second's headache. Rest easy:)

I find the loss of a washer (or dishwasher) in my life distressing beyond reason. I think it's because my house is a disaster even with the daily use of both -- and without them -- ack!

I'm so glad you stopped by my blog and said hi. Thanks for the visit.
